The Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority initiates several criminal cases

The Spokesman of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority stated that the Authority has initiated several criminal cases lately, and legal procedures against the accused are currently underway. The most prominent cases were: 1st case: With the cooperation of the Central Bank, 2 bank employees were arrested for receiving sums of money from a resident (arrested), in exchange for depositing sum of cash, without verifying their source, in bank accounts belonging to commercial entities; the total deposits amounted to 7,343,650 SR during a 2-year period. 2nd case: An employee "Injury Assessor" working at the Criminal Court in one of the regions, was arrested for agreeing, through a citizen mediator (arrested), with another citizen (arrested), to provide him illegally with a medical report indicating that he has lost the sense of taste and smell to present to the judiciary and issue a judicial ruling according to which he obtains a compensation of 687,000 SR from an insurance company, of which the employee’s share amounted to 300,000 SR. 3rd case: A resident was arrested for receiving 917,000 SR, in exchange for sub-awarding government contracts to a commercial entity that does not have a classification to enable it to obtain those contracts. 4th case: A Security officer working at the General Department of Traffic was arrested for receiving 387,000 SR from an owner of a public services office (arrested), in exchange for illegally amending the essential data of a group of vehicles and trucks. 5th case: An expert appointed by the Commercial Court (owner of an engineering consulting company) was arrested for being caught in the act of receiving 65,000 SR out of a promised 150,000 SR, in exchange for preparing a technical report that included incorrect information for a pending case before the court. 6th case: An employee working at the Social Development Bank in one of the regions was arrested for receiving 100,000 SR, in exchange for illegally completing the procedures of financing new projects. 7th case: With the cooperation of the Ministry of Interior, a resident in one of the regions was arrested for offering 55,000 SR to an officer working at the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, in exchange for his release. 8th case: An employee working in the Municipality of one of the governorates was arrested for forcing the people to contract with a public services office owned by one of his acquaintances, in exchange for completing their paperwork with the municipality. 9th case: The Head of the Buildings and Encroachments Department in the Municipality of one of the governorates and a citizen (mediator) were arrested for being caught in the act of receiving 30,000 SR, in exchange for not removing buildings in violation of municipal regulations. 10th case: 2 residents working in one of the contracting companies with the National Water Company were arrested for being caught in the act of receiving 15,000 SR out of a promised 30,000 SR, in exchange for illegally canceling a 500,000 SR water bill issued by the National Water Company. 11th case: Director of Operations and Maintenance in the Education Department of one of the governorates was arrested for requesting 34,500 SR, in exchange for completing the financial dues procedures for a contracting commercial entity with the Education Department. 12th case: A Non-Commissioned officer working at the General Directorate of Passports in one of the governorates was arrested for being caught in the act of receiving 15,000 SR out of a promised 30,000 SR, in exchange for completing paperwork procedures related to the children of a female citizen. 13th case: An employee working at a University Hospital in one of the regions was arrested for receiving 100,000 SR from citizens, in exchange for a promise to employ them at the university. 14th case: A resident was arrested for being caught in the act of receiving 14,000 SR out of a promised 28,000 SR from a citizen, in exchange for illegally delivering sewage services to his home. 15th case: 2 residents (mediators) were arrested for being caught in the act of receiving 5,000 SR out of a promised 20,000 SR, in exchange for illegally closing a pending case with the Criminal Investigation Department in one of the regions’ police by a non-commissioned officer (arrested). 16th case: The Head of the Nationalization Committee at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development in one of the governorates was arrested for receiving 26,000 SR from a commercial store, in exchange for overlooking violations that the employee claimed to have occurred while on a supervisory visit. 17th case: With the cooperation of the Ministry of Defense, a nursing technician working in one of the hospitals affiliated with the Ministry was arrested for stealing a large quantity of medicines "not intended for sale" with the aim of trading them in partnership with 2 residents (arrested). 18th case: With the cooperation of the Ministry of Health, a nurse working in a government hospital in one of the regions was arrested for illegally obtaining narcotic medical drugs subject to medical circulation regulation (not for sale). 19th case: A Municipality employee in one of the governorates was arrested for being caught in the act of receiving 1,500 SR, in exchange for illegally issuing a technical report from the municipality for a property, enabling the property owner to obtain the final installment of the financial support provided by the Real Estate Development Fund. 20th case: An employee working for an airline company was arrested for smuggling (858) pieces of gold into the Kingdom. Nazaha spokesman affirms on the continuation to pursue anyone who exploits the public office to achieve personal gain or harm public interest in any way, and that the accountability extends far beyond the retirement of individuals, as these types of crimes have no statute of limitations. The Authority will continue to apply the law, with zero-tolerance against corruption.
